Welcome to Combe Hay Vineyard 2021
Many people don’t know that Bath has its own established vineyard – a nature rich space in the beautiful village of Combe Hay, planted in 1986, it produces an elegant dry white wine.
It’s a family business and after the year we have all had with Covid 19, they are keen to share the benefits of the natural surroundings and woodland on the site with those who may benefit from time in nature on a respite course. They are also starting a volunteer programme, inviting local people to work on and learn about the vineyard.
About The Ross Family
Filippa and Steve are the proud parents of two young daughters. Their eldest, Iris, has special needs. Over time, they have met many other local parents and carers of special needs children, young people and adults, as well as amazing medical professionals, therapists, school staff and teachers.
We have all seen the extra demands placed on people which made basic requirements such as getting food, cleaning and doing their jobs, incredibly difficult, as well as giving them no real rest to restore energy and deal with the emotional impact.
It is with this in mind the vineyard are hosting Nature’s Respite courses, among other opportunities, on site.
Join or Refer a Friend for a Break in Nature on a Nature’s Respite Course
Combe Hay Vineyard are really happy to announce that local Community Interest Company, EcoWild (www.ecowild.org.uk) will run a series of free Nature Respite courses on the vineyard site for adults. The sessions will be a mixture of gentle movement, nature-based mindfulness, wildlife and discussion – sessions will run from the end of March 2021. They are aimed at those who might never have sought help before but need a helping hand now, learning how to use nature to release anxiety and recharge their batteries.
If you or anyone you know needs a break, please tell them about the course.
Also, there will be a monthly Foraging Course (fee applies) from April to August 2021, walking the woodland with a trained professional, identifying edible plants safely and learning to forage sustainably. Find out more at Nature Courses 2021 | COMBE HAY WINE & VINEYARD (wordpress.com)
Become a vineyard volunteer
Work has started this year to improve the health and productivity of the vines and the vineyard team are looking for people who can regularly commit to helping with the vineyard work in exchange for learning practical skills and more about the traditional and developing worlds of vines and wine making.
Experienced vineyard managers - Daniel Ham and Tom Jayne, who have previously worked at large award-winning UK vineyards and have particular expertise in wine making and agronomy will be training small groups of volunteers from May 2021. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Filippa Ross on [email protected].
About Combe Hay Vineyard
The Vineyard was planted in 1986 and previous vintages of the wine have received wonderfully positive reviews from experts and locals. When Filippa and Steve Ross moved from London to start a family, they became involved in the vineyard, and since December 2020, they have taken over the reins from Filippa’s parents.
This is an exciting new period in the vineyard’s history, with a new team looking forward to welcoming you on a nature course or volunteering.
Getting to the Vineyard
There are some great footpaths that go to Combe Hay and one from Combe Down/Southstoke that pretty much ends at the vineyard gate. If you drive to Wheatsheaf Pub in Combe Hay, just follow the road on past the pub and take the first left (marked ‘no through road’), and there is a small car park on the left through a gate.
